Michael Aram is an American born artist who works primarily in metal. After studying fine art and living in New York in the late 1980's, where his creative and artistic leanings were already evident, he travelled through India and became enamoured of its millennial tradition of handcrafted metalwork. Aram immediately began studying metal-craft techniques and started working with local craftsmen on pieces of his own design. He was hooked—the rest is design history.
Aram's work reflects humanity, as each piece is lovingly made using time-honoured traditional techniques. The artisan nature of the work imbues it with a soulful quality and energy, which Aram feels is only possible with work that mirrors the hand of the maker. His unique take on home furnishings and tableware allows for a beautiful shift between the realm of fine and decorative art. This enduring melange of quality and originality sits comfortably at home in contemporary as well as in more classical interiors. Aram’s work causes us to pause and consider it, creating a sense of ritual and ceremony in the day to day use.
