GANESH EMPORIUM

VINTAGE HAND EMBROIDERED KRISHNA PICHWAI BLACK

The word "Pichwai" is born from the Sanskrit words ‘pich’ meaning back and ‘wais’ meaning hanging. These Pichwais are traditionally hung behind the image of the Hindu Lord Shrinathji, another manifestation of the revered Lord Krishna. Each pichwai painting is considered a seva or an offering to the deity and hence personifies Shrinathji as a Prince with jewels and luxuries, surrounded by "gopis", the milkmaids.

This hand embroidered Pichwai tapestry combines the harmony and freshness of its colours with exquisite workmanship, to make it an endlessly fascinating work of art.
